The past week has been a hectic but fruitful one for members of Prestatyn Running Club, producing a hatful of trophies, titles and personal bests.

There was an excellent turnout by the club in the Caernarfon 10k, which incorporated the North Wales championships, even though some of them had competed less than 48 hours earlier in Shotton.

Dean Longley was among those, and he finished eighth in Caernarfon, where there was keen competition at the sharp end. Gordon Jones had another excellent outing, coming 14th overall and winning the M55 class in both the open race and championship by a huge margin.

Also among the trophy-winners were Debbie Wade and Katie Dawson, who became North Wales champions soon after joining the club.

Right through the field members performed admirably, with teenager Alex Ryder breaking the 40-minute barrier for the first time. At the other end of the age spectrum Steve Hatfield was 2nd in the M65 championship and Roger Harrison-Jones and Dave Hughes were 2nd and 3rd in the M75 category.

Jo Edwards and Clare Manley were among those who recorded pbs, while Caroline Jones was less fortunate, having to pull out after five miles with an injury.

The placings were: 8 Dean Longley 34.48, 14 Gordon Jones 37.25, 24 Gareth Bailey 39.12, 27 Alex Ryder 39.51 (2nd U20 in open and champs), 39 George Nixon 42.02 (2nd M60 in open and champs), 40 Matty Smith 42.23, 61 Amy Bagnall (1st claim Salford) 45.32 (1st U23 in NW champs), 69 Russ Cheetham 46.57, 78 Alan Jones 48.39, 82 Abbie Cheetham 49.05 (1st JL in open and closed races), 89 Steve Hatfield 50.12, 102 Jo Edwards 52.34 (3rd L40 in champs), 104 Sharon Jones 52.45, 108 Katie Dawson 53.53 (1st L35 in champs), 110 Allison Reid 54.17, 116 Dave Hughes 56.09, 118 Clare Manley 57.37, 121 Deborah Wade 58.31 (1st L55) 122 Roger Harrison-Jones 58.59.

The final race in Deestriders’ Off-Road Grand Prix proved exceptionally successful for the club, with six members coming away with end-of-season trophies .

Dean Longley’s victory meant he won the senior men’s class and other award winners were Benjamin Harrison (1st junior man), Steve Hatfield , who was1st M65 on his 69th birthday, Mike Davis (2nd M65), Katie Dawson (3rd L35) and Glenda Davies (2nd L50).

The muddy conditions meant that times were slower than usual, but the placings in the final race were: 1 Dean Longley 27.15, 7 Alex Ryder 29.54 (1st JM), 21 Matthew Smith 32.02, 37 Benjamin Harrison 34.53, 39 Russ Cheetham 35.14, 49 Steve Hatfield 37.49 (1st M65), 54 Jennifer Owens 38.28, 58 Katie Dawson 39.40 (3rd L35), 62 Liz Martin 44.06.

With so many counter-attractions it was not surprising that only two members took part in the annual Llyn Brenig trail race. Paul Brandrick clocked 73.30 and Debbie Richards 81 minutes.

Once again Dafydd Owen was the club’s sole representative on the hills – this time in the 15-mile Clwydian Hills race. He was first in the M60 class in 3-10.07.
