THE UPS AND DOWNS OF OUR HELENS

Published In PRC News

The club’s two Helens have had very mixed experiences over the past couple of weeks.

While Helen Baxandall suffered a nasty fall on a club run, badly cutting her face – and that just a couple of weeks before going on holiday – Helen Ashworth received the news that she has been given the club’s single allocated place in next year’s London Marathon. With partner Steve Skates also accepted on the basis of his fast qualifying time it should make training interesting!

Helen was the only eligible club member to apply for the club place, quite a contrast from the ‘80s and ‘90s when we had up to 25 members making the annual trip to London.

This year, due to a change in allocation of club places by the organisers, we had only one place available instead of the two we have had in recent years, which is further proof that these days the organisers are not really interested in club runners, only the elite and fun-runners.
