Three races in three days is a tough challenge for any athlete but husband-and-wife Rob Alexander and Jo Hoppes of Prestatyn Running Club coped admirable with it at the weekend.

On Friday they were among 25 members who competed in the fourth and final race in Deestriders’ Off-Road Grand Prix at Shotton, which resulted in the weekend’s first big haul of trophies of the weekend.

The following day Ron and Jo, along with Wyn Roberts, braved the elements in the Llyn Brenig 9-mile trail race and then on Sunday they were joined by a host of club members, several of whom had also run at Shotton, in the Caernarfon 10k, which incorporated the North Wales championship.

The red tops of PRC dominated the prizegiving in Caernarfon, claiming numerous age-group awards and regional titles.

It was a special day for many reasons, with probably the outstanding individual performance coming from 15-year-old Jenna Bagnall, who finished her first 10k in a brilliant 48.10, while Steve Hatfield celebrated his 70th birthday with a silver medal in his new age-group.

The race also marked the club debut of recent recruit Andrew Bromley who will be a big asset, the return to competition by John Hughes-Roberts after a lengthy lay-off and the first race for new husband-and-wife Wyn and Karen Roberts (formerly Bagnall) since their wedding last week.
