Members of Prestatyn Running Club did themselves and the club huge credit with a strong showing in two important events at the weekend.

Despite the clash of fixtures several members turned out twice in under 24 hours to consolidate the men’s and women’s League positions.

Saturday saw the second meeting of the Grand Prix Express North Wales Cross-Country League in Llandudno, with 12 men and 12 women from the club taking part.

It was an excellent all-round team performance even though there were some hiccups on the day, including Amie Bagnall being among a group of athletes who strayed off the course and super-vet Dave Hughes taking a tumble on the forestry track.

Steve Skates showed he is regaining his fitness while 20-year-old Morgan Jones provided further evidence of his potential, and it was again encouraging to see some of the ladies from the beginners’ group prepared to have a go at the testing discipline.

The men finished fourth in Division 2 on the day but remain second overall while the women were fifth on the day and are fourth in Division 1 after two races. The over-70s’ trio were first team in their age-group.
