After the previous week’s packed programme most members of Prestatyn Running Club had a break from competition at the weekend but there were still a few events about.
The top performance of the week came from Alex Ryder who finished a superb 120th out of 36,000 runners in the Great Manchester 10k, setting a new pb of 37.35.
For new recruit John Jones and Jennifer Owens the Manchester race was their second in 24 hours. Jennifer finished in 57.16.
Two pairs of runners took part in a novel event, the Jubilee Relay up and down Moel Fammau from Llangynhafal. Steve Skates and Helen Ashworth finished sixth overall in 38.46 and Jo Hoppes and Wyn Roberts were 16th in 45.27.
There was a stronger field than usual in the Conwy Parkrun , where Arwel Jones was first of a trio of club members. He was 50th overall, eight places and 10 seconds ahead of Nigel Bakewell, who set a new pb.
The placings were 50 Arwel Jones 22.45, 58 Nigel Bakewell 22.55, 71 Leon McKenna 23.42.
The club’s annual relays will be on June 14, at the new venue of Rhyl’s Marine Lake. That is just a few days after the Welsh Castles Relay, the unique Caernarfon – Cardiff competition involving 20 stages.
