Prestatyn Running Club’s off-road captain Wyn Roberts again led by example when he was the club’s sole representative in Saturday’s Snowdon International Race.

In damp conditions the runners face a headwind on the ascent to the summit but Wyn showed the benefit of his recent extended training. He reached the summit in 70.56 and was then in his element on the potentially tricky descent, crossing the line in 1-46.09, two minutes inside his previous best.

Half a dozen club members opted for the considerably less challenging Conwy Parkrun. It paid off for three of them, who recorded pbs for the course. The placings were: 37 Nigel Bakewell 22.59 ( pb), 94 Roger Harrison-Jones 27.10 (pb), 148 Sara Jones 30.15, 214 Julia Evans 34.35, 215 Julie Evans 34.40, 218 Suzanne Evans 35.02 (pb).

Ally Reid popped over the Liverpool for the Sefton Park 5k in the women’s race series and was first home in 23.50.

Last week husband and wife Rob Alexander and Jo Hoppes did a “double”. In the tough Tal y Fan race above the Conwy Valley Ron finished an excellent seventh in 1-23.28 and Jo was 105th in 1-57.43.

A few days later Rob came 10th in the Druids Race from Llanferres, finishing in 39.03. James Rogers was 62nd in 47.40 and Jo 10 place behind in 48.44.

Also last week Sian Beck found the heat and the hills a challenge in the Chirk half-marathon, but was 2nd L40 and fourth lady overall in 1-50.52.
