There was an exciting finish to Prestatyn Running Club’s annual handicap race around Marine Lake in which 30 members took part.

Julie Evans, who set off first, held onto her lead until the last 100 metres when teenager Jenna Bagnall managed to overhaul her. The competitors had to predict their finishing times for the three-lap race and the prize for the nearest guess went to Steve Skates, with Arwel Jones second and Dafydd Owen third.

The placings (with actual times in brackets) were: 1 Jenna Bagnall 19.17, 2 Julie Evans 29.16, 3 Alan Jones 22.00, 4 Debbie Cartwright 26.08, 5 Jo Hoppes 20.17, 6 Clair Atterbury 28.45, 7 Suzanne Evans 29.30, 8 Amy Reid 21.46, 9 Arwel Jones 19.51, 10 Jo Edwards 22.31, 11 Nigel Bakewell 19.45, 12 David Williams 19.50, 13 Lesley Furneaux 29.47, 14 Sue Rodgers 21.20, 15 Ally Reid 20.05, 16 Alex Ryder 16.06, 17 Steve Skates 15.13, 18 Andy Aitken 22.36, 19 Clare Manley 25.27, 20 Caroline Jones 25.34, 21 Amie Bagnall 17.12, 22 Jennifer Owens 24.01, 23 Neil Stephenson 21.15, 24 Mike Davis 21.18, 25 James Rogers 18.09, 26 Matty Smith 18.09, 27 Dafydd Owen 24.36, 28 Helen Ashworth 19.14, 29 Debbie Tierney 31.22, 30 John Jones n19.15.

Two members had to contend with torrential rain in Sunday’s Lake Vyrnwy half-marathon. Despite the conditions and suffering from blisters Jim Kimber set a new pb of 1:32.30, and Tracy Colligan clocked 2:03.

After winning the Caernarfon 10k the previous week Amie Bagnall chalked up another victory on Saturday in the mud of the Wepre Parkrun in Connah’s Quay.

It was her first visit to the event and she finished sixth overall and first lady in 22.31. In the same event Steve Stocker again came second, and first M40, in 20.58. Matty Smith was 8th in 23.00 and Clare Atterbury 85th in 37.24.

A few days earlier Clair came to grief in the Wirral Trail Series but picked herself up to finish in 60.18.

In the Conwy Parkrun another Steve – Skates – also came second in 18.19, and he was followed by Callum Dally (26th in 21.56), Julia Evans, who was 102nd in a pb of 28.14, Roger Harrison-Jones (107th in 28.29, Helen Baxandall (139th in 30.38, pb) and Nigel Bakewell (141st in 30.45).

The name of Gareth Roberts was omitted from last week’s results from the Clwydian 30-mile fell-race. It was his first attempt at such an event and he finished 13th overall in 8:17.18.
