Prestatyn Running Club broke another record on Sunday when an unprecedented 41 members turned out for the third fixture in the Borders Road-Running League at Abergele - and the turnout paid dividends for the men and women.

Both teams came top in Division 2, with the men now well clear of second-placed Deestriders and the women moving ahead of Chester Tri to take first place after three races.

It was also good to see three recent recruits, Steven Brown, Caroline Lewis and Debbie Jones, making the League debuts among the big field of over 370.

Despite a blustery wind conditions were good for the 5-mile out-and-back competition which was won by Gareth Williams (Deestriders) .

Amie Bagnall claimed her highest-ever position in the League, coming second the day after winning the Twin Piers 10k in Colwyn Bay in a new pb.

The club’s junior section had a superb success rate at the North Wales indoor championships at Kelsterton at the weekend. Eden Jones (U13 girls), the club’s junior member of the year in 2017, and Lucian Morris (U11 boys) both won gold in the shot, while Lily-Ava Morris took silver in the U11 girls’ 50-metre sprint.

The club’s twice-weekly beginner sessions are, like last year, proving a huge hit, with over 30 newcomers having signed up for the 10-week course.
