On Saturday only three members competed in the annual Wrexham 10-mile race which as usual incorporated the North Wales championship. George Nicholls again came away with a trophy, coming third in the M45 class in both the open and closed competitions with a time of 63.20. He was eighth overall.

Russ Cheetham was 29th in 72.41 and Amie Bagnall, wearing the colours of Salford AC, set a huge pb of 73.25. She was fourth lady overall and received the U23 prize.

Amie’s fellow-student Abbie Cheetham has been named as this year’s recipient of the Sherion Shield, donated by an anonymous enthusiast, for the outstanding young road-runner of the year in North Wales.

Three members were among the thousands who lined up in the London Marathon. Recent recruit Karen Ainsworth, making her debut at the event, clocked a superb 3-46.53, with Helen Ashworth not far behind in 3-54.35. Another relative newcomer, Hadyn Johnson, finished in 4-48.05.

The club has a number of social runs and events lined up over the coming months and members are asked to check the dates.

Meanwhile another beginners’ group has begun on Monday evenings, with the original group now having progressed to “improvers”.
