Three members of Prestatyn Running Club from different levels in the age spectrum were among the prize winners at the highly competitive Birchwood 10k at Warrington on Sunday.

Alex Ryder (Junior man), Gordon Jones (M55) and Dave Hughes (M75) all won their age-groups.

The event also marked the club debuts for mother-and-daughter Ali and Amy Reid from Rhyl.

The placings were: 30 Gordon Jones 37.57, 61 Alex Ryder 40.33 (pb), 62 George Nicholls 40.34, 173 Matty Smith 44.54, 361 Russ Cheetham 50.00, 473 Amy Reid 53.49, 514 Hadyn Johnson 55.55, 552 Ali Reid 56.16, 667 Dave Hughes 59.54.

After his health scare a few weeks ago it was Russ Cheetham’s second comeback race in five days.

He was among four club members who competed in the Capenhurst 5k, which always attracts a quality field. The ever-improving Matty Smith was the first of the quartet, breaking the 20-minute barrier for the first time in 19.46 in 95th place overall, and he was followed by second-claimer Amie Bagnall (117th) in 20.51, Sian Beck (121st) in 21.09 and Russ (156th) in 23.02.

Debbie Wade was the only club member to take part in the Conwy Parkrun on Saturday and she set another pb of 27.39. Meanwhile Dafydd Owen took to the hills again and was second M60 in the Half Peris Horseshoe from Llanberis, with a time of 3-12.44.
