After several weeks of hectic activity last weekend provided a bit of a lull for members of Prestatyn Running Club, with only four being in competitive action – and they were in Ireland.

They were part of a Welsh squad for the British and Irish Masters’ cross-country international, a squad which was severely depleted by the absence of most of the South Wales contingent whose flight to Dublin was cancelled.

In filthy conditions Gordon Jones had an excellent run, finishing 39th overall in the M50 race and 15th in the M55 class, with a time of 29.57.

In the over-70s’ race Roger Harrison-Jones and Dave Hughes had their own regular internal battle, with the latter overcoming an early fall to make up ground. In the end , however, Harrison-Jones held on for 11th place in the M75 class in 32.56, with Hughes one place behind in 33.58.

Gabby Waring, who was a reserve for the L55 team, took part in the open race but those results have not yet been published.

This coming weekend a large contingent will be in action with Saturday’s Penmaenmawr fell-race followed on Sunday by the Conwy half-marathon.
