This weekend Prestatyn Running Club’s trio of supervets are heading for Bath in the hope of clinching a team award at the BMAF cross-country championships.

Roger Harrison-Jones, John Hickman and Dave Hughes, all in the M75 class, have a friendly rivalry which should help them in their bid for success.

Club chairman Mike Davis and secretary Gareth Hughes will also be competing in the M65 class.

Super-vet Dafydd Owen was again the only Prestatyn member competing in Saturday’s Pipe Dream fell-race in Dolgarrog but unlike several of the leading runners he did not go off-course, finishing 83rd in 61.34.

The following day he was in action again, this time in the Anglesey half-marathon. Steve Skates finished fourth overall in 75.32, with his partner Helen Ashworth, who is training for next month’s London Marathon, 224th in 1-42.09. Andrew Scott was 367th in 1-49.15, Dafydd was 493rd and second M65 in 1-56.20 and Hadyn Johnson was 524th in 1-57.24 just a week after the Oulton Park half-marathon.

Another member doubling up at the weekend was Abbie Cheetham who helped Keele University come third in the Ed Pickett University Road Relays on Saturday and then ran the Cheadle 5-miler in 36.51 the following day.

98Six members, including one of the beginners’ group, took part in the latest Parkrun 5k in Conwy, with Benjamin Harrison again the first finisher in 19th place overall with a time of 22.22. Others were Sonia Penlington 27.25 (course pb), Claudia Rowan 29.42 (first-timer), Jackie Pottle 29.42, Jacqueline Jones 35.48 (first-timer) and Graham Duerden 39.49.

Tickets are now available for the club’s annual social and prizegiving to be held at Melyd Golf Club on April 9, and with the increase in the number of members over the past 12 months demand ,may well exceed supply.
