With no races in the area at the weekend seven members of Prestatyn Running Club decided to take part in the Conwy Parkrun and though some were disappointed with their times, especially with the conditions being so good, two managed to record personal bests.

First of the group home in 62nd place was supervet Gareth Hughes who clocked 23.18 to win the M70 class. He was followed closely by Russ Cheetham (67th in 23.25) and Arwel Jones (74th in 23.51).

The consistent Debbie Richards was 104th in 25.29 and after overtaking clubmate Jackie Pottle in the final stages Julia Evans broke 30 minutes for the first time. She was 175th in 29.27, with Jackie one place and five seconds back. The other pb came from Emma Fairhurst, one of the club’s improvers’ group, who, in a field of 318, finished in a highly creditable 219th place in 32.16.

Also running was Julia’s son Graham Williams, who has been training with the club recently. He finished 137th in 27.10.

This coming weekend will be a very busy one for the club, with several members in line for awards in the fourth and final race in Deestriders’ Off-Road Grand Prix in Shotton on Friday, the Caernarfon 10k, which incorporates the North Wales championship, on Sunday, and the club’s own handicap race on Monday evening.

Tickets are now available for the club’s ceilidh with the band Mooncoin, to be held at the Ffrith Beach complex on October 1.
