While several Prestatyn Running Club members were competing in the Conwy half-marathon two clubmates had a successful trip over the border on Sunday.

Ladies’ road captain Ally Reid and Steve Gleave both set personal bests in the Tatton Patk half-marathon in Knutsford, Ally clocking 1-45.33 and Steve 1-46.37.

At Conwy, where the course involves a circuit of the Great Orme, Sian Beck clocked 1-43.35 (chip time 1-43.10), Sue Rodgers 2-00.54 (chip time 1- 57.01) and Jo Edwards was close behind in 2-02.31 (chip time 1-58.38). They were followed by Hadyn Johnson in 2-12.09 (chip 2-08.21).

The previous day off-road captain Helen Ashworth was joined by husband and wife Rob Alexander and Jo Hoppes in the Penmaenmawr fell-race and although the cold weather was good for running the boggy conditions made it tough going. Rob was 34th overall in 1-33, Helen 64th in 1-42 and Jo 100th in 1-53.

Three members turned out in the latest Conwy Parkrun on Saturday, the consistent Nigel Bakewell finishing 38th in 23.19, Leon McKenna was 51st in a pb of 24.05 and Julie Evans also set a new pb of 34.33 in 180th place overall.

This Saturday the men and women will be hoping to build on their excellent start to the season in the Grand Prix Express North Wales Cross-Country League when hey travel to Bangor.

After two races the men lie second in Division 2 while the women are fourth in Division 1, their highest position for many years.
