Prestatyn Running Club members did themselves and North Wales proud at the weekend by producing some of the region’s best results at the Welsh inter-regional cross-country championships in Brecon.

Amie Bagnall finished 11th overall in the senior ladies’ race and was the first North Wales finisher, while Steve Skates also finished 11th in the highly competitive senior men’s event and was the second North Wales man home.

Helen Ashworth fully justified her first representative call-up while Ally Reid, also making her debut, had probably her best run yet on the country. It was a pity that by failing to field a full team in several age-groups some members lost out on the chance of team medals.

The placings were:- Senior men: 11 Steve Skates. U20 men: 9 Leon Bagnall 22.45, 13 Benjamin Harrison 23.44. Senior/ Masters women: 11 Amie Bagnall 25.13, 62 Helen Ashworth 28.18, 67 Ally Reid 28.28. U20 Ladies: 7 Coral McShane 24.36, 11 Sophia Jerbi 25.37.

In the latest Parkrun at Conwy Debbie Richards took 11 seconds off her pb, finishing 50th overall in 24.41, while recent recruit Leon McKenna was just nine seconds and five places ahead of her.

After last winter’s successful venture the club is to launch another beginners’ programme on January 9 and volunteers are sought to help super vise them.
