The weather was bitterly cold for competitors in Sunday’s Nick Beer 10k in Llandudno but there were plenty of heartwarming performances by members of Prestatyn Running Club.
Thirteen women and eight men from the club were among the 700 or so runners taking part, a bigger field than usual as it incorporated the Welsh championship for the first time.
Once again the squad was led home by Steve Skates, who was fifth overall and second M35 in a superb 33.09. Amie Bagnall was first U23 and Benjamin Harrison second in the same age-groups and Mike Davis third M65. Amie had the honour of being North Wales team captain on the day and they beat the South and East Wales teams for the first time in many years.
The placings were (Chip Times):

Three of the five members who turned out in Saturday’s Par run at Conwy registered personal bests. The placings were: 16 Callum Dally 21.51 (pb), 91 Jack McKenna 27.53 (pb), 92 Leon McKenna 27.54, 121 Emma Fairhurst 30.03 (pb), 122 Nigel Bakewell 30.04.
A record five members of the club have been named in the North Wales squad for the British inter-counties’ cross-country championships in Loughborough on March 11, one of the most prestigious events in the cross-country calendar. They are Steve Skates and Andy Bromley (senior men), Amie Bagnall (senior lady) and Coral McShane and Sophia Jerby (junior ladies).
The club is currently preparing to host two 5k races – at Marsh Tracks, Rhyl, on March 31 and at the Ffrith Beach, Prestatyn, on May 7. The latter will once again incorporate the North Wales championships and will also feature the first ever junior road championships.
