After their first and fourth places in the previous week’s Dolgellau race Prestatyn Running Club’s Dean Longley and Steve Skates registered a 1-2 in the latest event in Deestriders’ Off-Road Grand Prix in Shotton.

Once again the club provided a large proportion of the field – 18 out of 68 finishers – and looks set to collect a heap of awards after the fourth and final race. In addition there were several personal bests, notably that of Clair Atterbury, who took a massive four minutes off her previous best.

The placings were: 1 Dean Longley 25.33, 2 Steve Skates 25.50 (1st M35), 9 Andrew Bromley 28.11, 19 Alex Ryder 28.11, 24 James Rogers 32.03, 26 Benjamin Harrison 32.23, 35 Helen Ashworth 34.33 (3rd lady and 2nd SL), 39 Nigel Bakewell 35.33, 42 John Jones 36.10, 47 Mike Davis 37.59 (1st M70), 51 Alan Jones 41.03, 57 Julia Evans 43.51, 58 Jennifer Owens 45.45, 63 Emma Fairhurst 48.03, 65 Clair Atterbury 55.02, 66 Suzanne Evans 56.40, 67 Julie Evans 56.46, 68 Duncan Longley 56.46.

Three members topped their age-groups in the weekend’s Parkruns. At Wepre, Connah’s Quay, Steve Stocker finish fifth overall and was 1st M40 in 20.56, and the Conwy results were: 42 Callum Dally 21.41, 70 Nigel Bakewell 23.09, 81 Ally Reid 23.40 (pb, 1st L40), 101 Paul Brandrick 24.48, 106 Sue Rodgers 25.10 (pb, 1st L55), 109 Amy Reid 25.25, 182 Clare Manley 28.45.

Long-serving members of the club will be saddened to hear of the sudden death of Arnie Mouat at his home in West Lothian in Scotland. Arnie and his wife Christine were loyal members of the club while he worked on the gas terminal at Talacre and they presented a trophy to the club which is still awarded each year. He had been missing for a month and police are treating his death as “unexplained”.
