Two races in two days is more than enough for most runners but on Saturday Prestatyn Running Club’s Clare Atterbury set herself an even tougher challenge of two races in two hours.

After setting a pb in the Wepre Parkrun in Connah’s Quay she travelled to Llanarmon-yn-Ial for the King John’s Castle hill race, a 4.6-mile event with 816 feet of climbing. She finished it 62m 45 secs.

It was two in two days for Martin Gill, who followed up his Parkrun by turning out in Sunday’s Hoylake 10k, clocking 50.12.

In the fourth and final race of Deestriders’ Off-Road Grand Prix series Andy Bromley completed a clean sweep of victories.

He was a comfortable winner of the series, with nine other members also picking up individual awards.

In the final race the placings were: 1 Andy Bromley 25.52, 6 Josh Cerefice 28.22 (3rd SM), 10 Canyon Wilson 29.21, 20 James Rogers 31.57, 35 Benjamin Harrison 34.37, 39 Ally Reid 36.32 (2nd L45), 40 Alan Jones 37.11, 42 Martin Gill 37.26, 44 Clair Atterbury 37.53 (2nd L40), 46 Jo Lewis 38.12 (3rd L45), 50 Mike Davies 38.48 (3rd M70), 54 Liz Martin 39.24 (3rd L40), 56 Katherine Prestwich 39.26, 63 Cara Jones 43.53, 64 Julia Evans 44.00 (1st L50), 67 Clare Manley 45.32, 73 Lesley Furneaux 51.04, 74 Debbie Cartwright 51.52, 75 Alex White 52.49, 76 Janice Price 52.53 (1st L55), 77 Suzanne Evans 53.58, 79 Julie Evans 56.31 (2nd L55).

There were further honours for the club on Sunday in the Guilden Sutton 10k. Steve Skates finished second overall and first M40 in 33.38, with Andy Bromley one place and 12 seconds behind.

There were also excellent performances from Josh Cerefice (31st in 38.25), James Rogers (63rd in 43.20) and former captain Bill Scriven, who was returned to the club (157th in 52.24).

Roger Harrison-Jones followed up his 5k in the World Masters’ 5k with an outing in the half-marathon in Malaga, He finished 5th M80 in 2-28.25.

In last week’s Vyrnwy half-marathon Andrew Aitken took three minutes off his pb for the course, finishing in 2-05.25.

Two of the club’s most successful members face each other in a head-to-head in this year’s Denbighshire Community Sports Awards. Both Steve Skates and Amie Bagnall have been shortlisted in the category for Sports Performer of the Year. The presentations will take place at Llangollen International Pavilion on November 8.
