Three podium places and one near-miss – that was the fine achievement of members of Prestatyn Running Club over the past two weeks.

By a nice coincidence two of the best results were achieved by a couple of the youngest and oldest members.

Roger Harrison-Jones returned from a busy holiday in Malaga with a silver medal as part of the British team in the World Masters’ half-marathon championships.

Though 80+ he was asked to complete the over-75s’ team and it paid off as they took second place.

The other silver medal went to Rose Hayes (pictured) in the under-11’s race in the North Wales fell-running championships on the Great Orme. She finished the testing course, with a steep incline to the finish, in 6m 33s.

The third podium place last week went to teenager Lois Lee, who was the first woman home in the Carneddau 12k trail race, finishing in 70.45.

Unlucky to lose out was Rob Alexander, who finished fourth overall in the Trailffest half-marathon from Tanygrisiau, Ffestiniog, to Porthmadog. Though the course was reduced this year to 20k conditions were tricky, with slippery rocks and deep mud in patches.

Rob finished in 1-34.33, and behind him Jo Lewis had the run of her life, coming 60th in 2-03.11. Jayne Penrhyn-Jones was next, in 91st place in 2-21.17, with Gareth Hughes, in his first attempt at the distance in 30 years, one place behind in 2-21.38. Tracy Colligan completed the contingent, coming 120th in 2-36.13.

Another five members took part in a different trail event at Llyn Alwen. Ally Reid was 29th overall and fourth lady in 57.02, with Clare Atterbury not far behind – 35th in 59.20. Steve Brown, on his way back from injury, was 38th in 59.37, Amy Jones 59th in 66.56 and Janice Price and Karen Roberts finished together in 86.27.

Andy Bromley continued in brilliant form on Saturday, this time in the colours of North Wales. He finished fourth in the hilly Meerbrook 15k race, which was an inter-county challenge against Cheshire, Staffordshire and Shropshire. His time of 56.46 helped the North Wales team take second place.

Sian Beck was also in the North Wales and came away with two awards, for third L40 and for third team. Her time was 73.23.

Julie Evans was the club’s sole representative in the Wepre Parkrun, finishing 104th in 41.06, while Martin Gill and Bill Scriven ran at Conwy. The former was 66th in 24.48 and the latter 74th in 25.05.
