There were titles and trophies in abundance for members of Prestatyn Running Club at the annual Abergele 5-mile race on Sunday.
Twenty-five members lined up – about one-eighth of the total field - and 10 of them came away with at least one trophy or medal.
The race incorporated the North Wales championship and so several claimed the regional titles. In addition to the individual awards the men and women took the team titles.
The placings were: 2 Steve Skates 26.48 (1st M40 in open race and champs), 4 Andrew Bromley 26.55 (3rd SM in open, 2nd in champs), 20 Josh Cerefice 29.09, 21 Chris Yorke 29.34 (2nd M50 in open and champs), 30 Amie Bagnall 30.51 (3rd SL in open, 2nd in champs), 45 James Rogers 33.15 (2nd M45 in champs), 49 George Nixon 33.31 (1st M65 in open and champs), 68 Steve Weedman 35.00, 69 Sian Beck 35.09 (2nd L40 in open and champs), 70 Benjamin Harrison 35.13 (3rd U20 in champs), 87 S teve Brown 38.00, 90 Ally Reid 38.14 (3rd L45 in open, 2nd in champs), 99 Kathryn Tabberner 38.46, 112 Mike Davis 39.52 (2nd M70 in open, 1st in champs), 116 Martin Gill 40.21, 121 Clair Atterbury 40.50 (3rd L40 in champs), 121 Andy Clark 40.50, 125 Bill Scriven 41.02, 133 Jo Edwards 42.14, 142 Rachel Jackson 43.41, 145 Katharine Prestwich 43.37, 154 Helen Alefounder 44.51, 156 Cara Jones 45.20, 172 Julia Evans 49.42, 183 Stuart Quayle 53.20.
Second in the M65 class was John McKenna, a founder member of the club in 1982, who currently lives in Crete. He clocked a nippy 36.28.
Five of the club’s ladies travelled to Knutsford for the picturesque Tatton Park 10k on Saturday. First home was Debbie Jones (641st in 64.35) and she was followed by Lesley Furneaux (725th, 67.20), Alex White (810th, 69.31), Suzanne Evans (828th, 71.32) and Julie Evans (854th, 72.49).
In the Tatton Park half-marathon the following day Jordan Mainwaring made his debut at the distance and clocked an impressive 1-30.06.
In the Bodelwyddan Parkrun Lois Lee and Jenna Bagnall renewed their friendly rivalry, with the former this time gaining the edge and thus claiming revenge for the previous week.
Placings: 6 Lois Lee 22.08 (pb), 7 Jenna Bagnall 22.17, 24 Arwel Jones 25.18 (1st M55), 50 Sue Rodgers 29.35, 55 Helen Alefounder 30.37, 71 Clare Manley 33.36.
At Conwy Amy Reid was the club’s sole representative, coming 137th in 30.44.
The day before he ran at Abergele Bill Scriven was in the 800-strong field at the Cardiff Parkrun. He finished in 25.04, but was beaten by his grand-daughter Rose Hayes, also a member of the club, in 24.20.
This weekend puts members’ fitness and loyalty under stress, with an unfortunate clash of fixtures. On Saturday is the third fixture of the Grand Prix Express North Wales Cross-Country League at Wrexham, and the following day West Cheshire AC host the second Borders Road-Running League fixture at Upton. The race starts earlier than usual at 9.30AM.
