Twenty-seven members of Prestatyn Running Club turned out in the popular Nick Beer 10k in Llandudno on Sunday, when the weather was thankfully much calmer than 24 hours earlier.

Last year Steve Skates finished third in the race and he went one better this time, finishing just nine seconds behind fellow veteran Gwyn Owen (Eryri) after virtually leading all the way.

Steve was one of five members to win an age-category award, with 15-year-old Eve Scott again having a brilliant run to win the U20 class.

Only six of the beginners’ group braved the fierce wind in the Conwy Parkrun on Saturday but they coped admirably considering they have only five weeks’ running experience. They were “ chaperoned” by more experienced members.

At the sharp end of the run Andy Bromley chalked up another win in 17.52, a remarkable time in the conditions.

At Wepre Mike Pearson finished 42nd in 28.38.

One of the club’s ladies has saved the men from relegation in the Grand Prix Express North Wales Cross-Country League.

After the final fixture at Oswestry two weeks ago it was announced that the team had finished sixth in Division 1 and therefore faced the drop. After totting up the scores Joy Hickman spotted errors and after a recount it was confirmed that they had actually finished ahead of Denbigh Harriers and so were reprieved.
