Hills, hills and more hills. That was what members of Prestatyn Running Club faced over the past week at a variety of venues.

Three members had a go at a new midweek event, a severe climb from Llandyrnog up to Moel-y-Parc in the dark, but using headlamps.

Jenna Bagnall finished fourth overall and was first lady in 36.44, with Helen Ashworth 16th overall and fourth lady in 41.14. The third member of the trio was Steve Brown, who came 22nd in 45.42.

Gareth Roberts was the club’s sole representative in another new event, the Conwy Marathon, which included a circuit of the Great Orme. He came 56th overall in 3-52.35.

The same day mother-and-daughter Jan and Hannah Garnett tackled the tough Denbigh 10k. Hannah finished 51st in 53.03, with Jan 93rd in 58.24 ( 2nd L50). Also taking part was Stuart Quayle, who came 127th in 67.51.

The main event of the weekend, was the sixth and penultimate fixture of the Borders Road-Running League over a new five-mile course at Hope. Though it was generally gently undulating it did include one long, steady climb around the halfway mark.

With eight men in the first 100 it was a good result and it would have been even better had Andrew Bromley not had to pull out with a chest infection.

The placings were: 7 Steve Skates, 8 Dean Longley, 16 Steve Forsyth, 35 Canyon Wilson, 63 Josh Cerefice, 70 Amie Bagnall, 91 Alex Ryder, 92 Matty Smith, 97 Vic Belshaw, 120 George Nixon (2nd M65), 158 Jenna Bagnall, 155 Steve Weedman, 176 James Rogers, 177 Joy Hickman, 205 Ben Harrison, 218 Steve Brown, 223 Gareth Hughes (1st M70), 262 Jo Lewis, 268 Alan Jones, 283 Mike Davis, 307 Cara Jones, 310 Roger Harrison-Jones (2nd M75), 314 Debbie Weedman, 315 Steve Hatfield.

Prestatyn will host the final fixture at the Ffrith on April 24.

At the Conwy Parkrun two of the improvers’ group, Samantha Blackwell and Hayley Evans, returned for their second outing and took two minutes off their previous week’s times. Results: 57 Andy Clark 23.24 (pb), 90 Bill Scriven 25.20, 261 Julie Evans 34.51, 282 Hayley Evans 37.23 (pb), 286 Samantha Blackwell 37.33 (pb).

Bodelwyddan Castle Parkrun: 5 Steve Stocker 21.14, 38 Mike Pearson 26.34.
