Prestatyn Running Club’s Julie Evans completed a “double double” last week when she was named as the club’s Member of the Year for a second time in three years.

At the presentation night at the Blue Lion, Cwm, she also shared a new award – the Endeavour Award - with Karen Roberts after their admirable efforts in the Cross-Country League last season.

Other recipients were:- Volunteer of the Year: Alex White; New Member: Josh Cerefice and Darren Thompson; Most Improved Lady: Hannah Garnett; Most Improved man: Andy Clark; Fellrunners of the Year: Jenna Bagnall (Ladies), Steve Brown (Men); Cross-country runners: Lis Lee and Steve Skates (Men); Road runners: Amie Bagnall and Matty Smith; Grand Prix winners: Amie Bag nall and James Rogers. Men’s Captain’s award: Steve Weedman; Ladies’ Captain’s Award: Jo Lewis.

Last week three seniors turned out in the North Wales track and field championships in Wrexham, with Amie Bagnall winning the senior ladies’ 3,000m in 10:47.3. Andy Bromley was 2nd senior man in 10:12.7 and James Rogers 2nd M40 in 11:53.2.

All four of the club’s junior athletes came away with medals from the championships, Callum Fox-Byrne alone claiming three. Results:- Hugh Holland 3rd in U15 800m; Chloe Holmes 3rd in U13 long jump; Elizabeth Stewart 1st in U17 shot; Callum Fox-Byrne 1st in U13 long jump, silver in the 100m and 200m.

Two of the seniors were in action again in the highly competitive Christleton 5kon Friday evening. Steve Forsyth was the club’s first finisher in a nippy 16.23, followed by Amie Bagnall (4th female) in 18.10, Matty Smith three second further back, and James Rogers in 20.20.

Over the weekend 32 members were in action as far afield as Chester, Manchester, Denbigh Moors and the Conwy Valley.

Biggest turnout was in Chester for the annual half-marathon, where several recorded personal bests. Results: 225 Gethin Evans 90.39 (pb), 427 Sian Beck 97.03 (pb), 526 Steve Weedman 98.54, 826 Wyn Roberts 1-44.03, 2007 Andy Clark 1-59.26, 2065 Mike Pearson 2-00.04, 2353 Jo Lewis 2-03.36, 2445Caras Jones 2-03.37 (pb), 3009 Debbie Weedman 2-12.26 (pb), 3014 Roger Harrison-Jones 2-12.34 (1st M80), 3119 Debbie Jones 2-18.15, 3322 Lesley Furneaux 2-20.46, 3926 Stuart Quayle 2-35.11.

Recent recruit Hannah Carty had a superb run in the Snow donia half-marathon which includes a “stinker” of a hill up to Llyn Geirionnydd. Results: Des Davies 1-54.03, Hannah Carty 2-01.27, Ally Reid 2-10.18, Jo Edwards 2-12.04.

Rob Alexander finished 3rd overall in the Two Lakes half-marathon around the Brenig and Alwen reservoirs, with a time of 1-37. In the 10k at the same venue Jo Hoppes was 3rd lady in 51.15.

Alex Ryder is coming back to form after a series of injuries. He won the Wepre Parkrun last week and on Sunday clocked 37.59 in the Great Manchester 10k. Sisters Frances and Hannah Garnett both recorded pbs of 40.02 and 49.42 respectively, while their mum Jan finished in 57.56.

There was a double victory for the club in Saturday’s Parkrun at Bodelwyddan Castle, with Josh Cerefice claiming his second win and Helen Ashworth being first lady home. Placings: 1 Josh Cerefice 18.34, 15 Helen Ashworth 24.11, 16 Steve Brown 24.27 (pb), 39 Helen Baxandall 28.07 (pb), 51 Helen Alefounder 29.30 (pb), 63 Clare Manley 32.27, 66 Julia Evans 32.53 (pb).

Wepre Parkrun: 50 Mike Davis 29.10 (pb), 117 Julie Evans 39.58, 118 Duncan Longley 39.58.

On May 29 the club is holding its annual social run at Rhewl, near Ruthin. There will be three different routes, and the run will be followed by a get-together at the village pavilion. Members are asked to meet at the pavilion by 6.30pm.
