What had looked like being a promising cross-country season for Prestatyn Running Club’s men fell apart on Saturday when only four seniors made the trip to Dolgellau for the third fixture in the Grand Prix Express North Wales League.

The disappointing turnout, which means that they now lie in eighth place in Division 1 and face relegation, was in contrast with that of the women, whose six runners established them at the top of Division 2.

As further consolation, the M65 team is still in contention for medals despite also being understrength on Saturday.

Placings:- Men: 66 Rob Alexander 41.45, 116 James Rogers 46.56, 133 Des Davies 49.42, 145 Steve Brown 51.45. M65: 2 George Nixon 31.12. M70: 5 Steve Hatfield 48.53. M80: 1 Roger Harrison-Jones 44.17. The same day Amie Bagnall took on the country’s top athletes in the Liverpool Cross Challenge. The longer-than-usual five-mile course was a quagmire and she did well to finish 91st overall.

One of the other weekend counter-attractions was Sunday’s Wilmslow 10k, which, as usual, attracted a quality field and produced fast times. Results: 134 Andrew Bromley 37.20, 732 Andy Clark 45.27 (course pb), 987 Benjamin Harrison 47.46, 1200 Martin Gill 49.00 (course pb), 1436 Kath Prestwich 50.33 (pb).

A week after finishing fourth overall and first M40 in the East Park Parkrun in Wolverhampton Steve Forsyth took first place in the Conwy Parkrun on Saturday. Placings: 1 Steve Forsyth 16.58 (pb), 25 Steve Weedman 21.53, 123 Paul Brandrick 27.29, 158 Debbie Weedman 29.00.

Twenty-four hours later he followed it up with another in the inaugural Celtest Foryd 5k in Caernarfon, clocking 16.38. In the same event the improving Will Williams was 21st in 21.37.

The club results from last week’s Conwy half-marathon are:- 222 Steve Haimes 95.22 (pb), 251 James Rogers 96.45, 290 Darren Thompson 98.14 (pb), 386 Sian Beck 1-40.53 (course pb), 536 Helen Ashworth 1-44.00, 689 Hannah Garnett 1-47.17 (pb), 726 Steve Brown 1-48.11, 845 Wyn Roberts 1-50.10 ( course pb), 855 Nicola Eatherington 1-50.19, 905 Andy Clark 1-51.27 (pb), 930 Hannah Carty 1-51.56, 942 William Williams 1-52.05 (pb), 1181 Martin Gill 1-56.36, 1199 Kat Prestwich 1-57.10, 1413 Cara Jones 2-01.20 (pb), 1549 Helen Alefounder 2-04.14 (pb), 1971 Stuart Quay le 2-13.57 (pb), 2047 Julia Evans 2-16.43 (pb).
