The first tentative steps towards the return to a normal racing programme were taken by athletes at the weekend with a 17-mile off-road even from Llangollen.

Full precautions were taken by the organisers, with runners released in a staggered start and the results based on a time trial system.

Unsurprisingly, the event attracted runners from a very wide area, and they included two members of Prestatyn Running Club, who enjoyed their return to racing over a tough but attractive course to Llandegla and back via Eglwyseg. It involved a total of 3,000 feet of climbing. Steve Brown finished 102nd in 3-38.32 and Helen Alefounder 116th in 4-02.59.

With the annual Abergele 5-mile race having been cancelled in November this weekend gives athletes a chance to try something different with a virtual race which incorporates the North Wales championship.

On Saturday or Sunday they can run 5 miles over any course they choose and provide evidence of their performance. As usual, there will be prizes in all age-groups.
