There was a mixture of the virtual and the real at the weekend as the athletics scene took another step towards normality.
The Spillane Wealth Management 5-miler in Abergele, normally held in November, this year took the form of a virtual race, with competitors submitting their times over any course of the correct distance, and it incorporated the North Wales championship.
Eight Prestatyn members took part and six of them gained age-group awards. The placings were: 5 Steve Forsyth 28.47 (2nd M40), 13 Will Williams 32.52 (2nd M45), 14 James Rogers 32.58 (3rd M45), 26 Sian Beck 36.43 (2nd L40), 33 Arwel Jones 40.35 (3rd M60), 41 Ally Reid 41.05, 52 Mike Davis 46.53 (2nd M70), 54 Stuart Quayle 51.30.
With so few competitions about it wasn’t surprising that the annual Moel Famau race from Cilcain attracted a good quality field, and to comply with Covid-19 restrictions runners set off in waves.
Only two Prestatyn members took part, Steve Skates finishing 16th in 29.56 (3rd M40) and Steve Brown 90th in 39.38.
