The return of the Nova Parkrun on Saturday was welcomed by local runners - and by two young members of Prestatyn Running Club in particular.

Alex Ryder, one of several members in fine form at the moment, finished second overall, while 16-year-old Rowan Graham-Jones was the second lady.

Martin Cortvriend, Julia Evans and Steve Hatfield all won their age categories.

Results: 2 Alex Ryder 17.36, 7 Steve Stocker 20’.29 (pb), 12 Martin Cortvriend 22.03, 15 Rowen Graham-Jones 23.17, 36 Julia Evans 27.50, 42 Debbie Jones 28.58, 52 Emma Birchall 31.44 (pb), 54 Steve Hatfield 32.07, 58 Nem James 32.54, 60 Linda Friar 33.10, 67 Lesley Furneaux 35.31, 82 Mervyn Beckwith 44.00.

Steve Forsyth had an equally successful outing at Conwy, where he finished third in a course pb of 16.46.

Three supervets were the club’s only representatives in last week’s Ruthin 5k, and though he is just short of his 70th birthday Martin Cortvriend won the over-60 class.

He finished about two minutes clear of George Nixon, and the pair were separated by former member Neil Halliday, who is in the same category and who is home for a short time in St Asaph.

Results: 16 Martin Cortvriend 21.32 (1st M60), 18 Neil Halliday 21.49 (2nd M60), 28 George Nixon 23.53, 38 Gareth Hughes 27.49 (2nd M70).

Four members took on the much tougher challenge of the Gladstone 9 fell-race near Penmaenmawr, and the warm weather made it even more testing.

Results: 18 John Simpson 1-43.48 (3rd M50), 52 Cara Jones 2-42.41, 53 Ann Clair Jones 2-42.46, 54 Helen Alefounder 2-42.50.
