Prestatyn Running Club’s Steve Skates turned back the clock a couple of years with a superb win in the 2 Hillforts race in the Clwydian Hills.
Starting from Llangynhafal, the nine-mile race involves 2,500 feet of climbs, and Skates destroyed the field to win in 75 minutes 3 seconds, coming home over four minutes clear of his closest challenger.
The only other Prestatyn member taking part was another Steve – Brown – who finished 22nd overall in 1-55.54.
Supervet Roger Harrison-Jones gained another item for his trophy cabinet when he won the M80 class in Sunday’s Farndon 10k.
A couple of members used the race as their final session before next Sunday’s London Marathon. Kat Prestwich was particularly pleased with her outing as she set a new pb, breaking 50 minutes for the first time.
Results: 89 James Rodgers 44.12,95 Steve Weedman 44.59, 120 Andy Clark 47.05, 152 Kat Prestwich 48.58 (pb), 270 Debbie Jones 60.41 (pb), 291 Roger Harrison-Jones 53.32, 296 Debbie Weedman 63.34.

The cross-country season finally opens this Saturday with the first fixture of the David Alun Williams North Wales League in Wrexham. The League has been renamed in honour of its former long-serving secretary who died two years ago.
The club will not be at full strength, however, as a handful of members will be competing in London, while others have different commitments.
