The Treborth course at Bangor which hosted the second fixture of the David Alun Williams North Wales Cross-Country League on Saturday provided a much tougher test than the Wrexham opener and though both teams were again understrength Prestatyn Running Club’s men and women put up solid all-round performances.
With Luke Bodman and Andy Clark making their cross-country debuts the men finished 10th on the day in Division 2 but now lie seventh on aggregate.
John Simpson again had a fine run as the club’s first finisher but it was Lee Bailey who caught the eye. He arrived late so started at the back of the field, but worked his way through to finish 117th.
There was yet another superb performance from Martin Cortvriend who, although almost 70, came second to Shrewsbury’s new supervet Graham Jones in the M65 class. The M65 team now lie second to Eryri Harriers.
Solid packing also enabled the ladies to finish sixth in Division 1 for the second time. Helen Ashworth ran strongly to take 64th place and there was a very encouraging performance from recent recruit Sophie Johnson who looked comfortable in the testing conditions..

The first fixture of the North Wales Junior League was staged at the same venue and it was good to see a couple of the club’s red vests in the starting line-up. Results: Girls under 11: 14 Tia Calland 8.22. Girls under 13: 12 Sorrel Blount 8.35.
Elsewhere two club members were first home in their respective Parkruns, Andrew Bromley in Prestatyn and Steve Forsyth in Wolverhampton.

Joint ladies’ captain Helen Alefounder joined a huge field in Liverpool for the Rock’n’Roll series of races, opting for the 5k. She finished in 349th place in 26.58.
