The clash between the Abergele 5k and the second Borders League fixture at Capenhurst led several Prestatyn Running Club members to opt out of the shorter race and turn out for the team.

Both men’s and women’s teams were still understrength, but managed to hold their positions in the League.

Andrew Bromley, who was among those who decided to go to the Wirral instead of Abergele, led the men’s team home but the most pleasing performance of the day came from debutant Ben Williams, who finished an excellent 55th in a high quality field.

Positions: 46 Andrew Bromley 27.56, 55 Ben Williams 28.25, 155 Martin Cortvriend 33.52 (1st M65), 197 Steve Haimes 35.37, 208 James Rogers 36.14, 244 George Nixon 38.03, 262 Steve Brown 38.38, 305 Arwel Jones 41.12, 312 Gareth Hughes (1st M75), 323 Jo Lewis 42.12, 324 Cara Jones 42.42,326 Sophie Johnson 42.45, 335 Liz Martin 43.36, 334 Helen Alefounder 43.33, 350 Debbie Jones 46.24.

Unsurprisingly, the Abergele race, which incorporated the North Wales championship, had a much smaller field than usual but that did not detract from some excellent performances.

The pick of the mall was Steve Forsyth, who finished third overall and won theM40 class. Will Williams claimed another huge pb while finishing 18th overall.

Placings: 3 Steve Forsyth 15.57 (1st M40 in open and champs), 18 Will Williams 18.29, Darren Thompson 21.07 (2nd M50 in open and champs)), 40 Sian Beck 21.39 (3rd L45 in open and champs), 73 Phil Roberts 26.51, 80 Elizabeth Cave 29.02, 82 Roger Harrison-Jones 29.08 (1st M80 in open and champs)).

Almost literally on home ground – the course being only about 200 metres from his home – Dean Longley set a new personal best of 18.25 in winning the Nova Parkrun.

As the previous week, Steve Stocker finished 5th and despite setting a pb was frustrated at having missed his 20-minute target by a single second.

Other finishers were: 5 Steve Stocker 20.01 (pb), 69 Eva Brewer 34.33. Greenfield Valley Parkrun: 12 Steve Weedman 23.16, 15 Martin Cortvriend 23.24, 25 Helen Ashworth 25.43, 43 Debbie Weedman 31.06. Wepre Parkrun: 26 Sian Beck 27.30. Huddersfield: 104 Hannah Garnett 23.42. Skipton: 5 Gordon Jones 19.15.

Craig Smith, in good form these days, finished seventh in the Anglesey Trail 10k and 2nd M40 with a time of 48.02.

Lee Bailey, who is also running very well at the moment, has chalked up two hill races in the past couple of weeks.

In the Clwydian Hills 15k fell-race he finished 35th out of 105 starters with a time of 1-46, and then in the first Dash in the Dark race in Llandegla Forest was 9th out of 80, clocking 26 minutes.
