The figures say it all, and unfortunately it’s makes sad reading for Prestatyn Running Club. Two years ago in the Borders Road Running League fixture at Deeside 36 members turned out, but 17 of them have since moved away from the area, are suffering long-term injuries or even stopped running. In Sunday’s return to the Kelsterton course for the season’s fourth fixture there were just 16 club members in action so despite some excellent individual performances the men’s and women’s teams were bound to be up against it in what is an increasingly competitive League. Andrew Bromley was the first Prestatyn finisher in a fine 28th place overall, and received good support from Alex Ryder, Steve Stocker, in his first League race of the season, and Steve Haimes. Close behind was the redoubtable Martin Cortvriend who turned out despite having had a back problem all week. The full results were not available at the time of going to Press, but the placings were: 28 Andrew Bromley, 45 Alex Ryder, 29 Steve Stocker, 140 Steve Haimes, 146 Martin Cortvriend,156 James Rogers, 161 Steve Weedman, 201 George Nixon, 207 Arwel Jones, 212 Steve Brown, 218 Ann-Claire Jones, 221 Ally Reid, 222 Gareth Hughes, 237 Cara Jones, 249 Helen Alefounder, 261 Liz Cave. Saturday’s Nova Parkrun was won by former GB middle distance runner Tom Carter, who runs the Trainer Container store in The Shed, Meliden. He ran a very tactical race, judging his finish perfectly to win by just a few seconds from former Prestatyn member James Kimber. Placings: 9 (1st lady) Amy Foster 22.20 (PB), 11 Steve Weedman 22.44, 17 Martin Gill 24.07,18 Helen Ashworth 24.59, 23 Melanie Bone 25.42, 55 Debbie Weedman 32.26, 63 Martin Cortvriend 34.14, 69 Nem James 36.12. Greenfield Valley: 71 Julie Evans 36.13 (PB). Wepre: 81 Steve Hatfield 35.40. Conwy: 73 Ann-Claire Jones 25.59, 95 Helen Alefounder 28.09. This Saturday (5th) sees the fifth and final fixture of the David Alun Williams North Wales Cross-Country League in Wrexham which this year incorporates the North Wales championship. The club has a strong record in the championship over the years but will need all its big guns out to make an impression this time. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Prestatyn club and plans are being made for a reunion of former members. It is provisionally booked for Saturday, July 9th, and anyone interested in attending or with contact details for other ex-members is asked to contact Gareth Hughes on 01745 - 888078 .

I’ve been contacted by my daughter for advice about good sports shoes(running) shops in the locality(Prestatyn).
    Can you offer any advice?
One of her friends is taking up running as a sport.
