After two recent victories in the Greenfield Valley Parkrun Prestatyn Running Club’s Ben Williams chalked up another win at the weekend on a much faster course.

There was a bigger field than usual in the Nova Parkrun event in Prestatyn but Ben stormed away to win in 18.12

A total of 16 members turned out in Saturday’s runs at six different venues, with four of them recording personal bests.

Results:- Nova: 1 Ben Williams 18.12, 10 Dan Liddle 21.33 (pb), 12 Dave Ellis 22.11, 15 James Rogers 23.19 (pb), 64 Linda Friar 31.22, 70 Emma Birchall 32.05, 84 Nem James 34.15, 109 Julie Evans 62.01 (Tailwalker). Greenfield Valley: 11 Ann Claire Jones 24.55 (pb), 26 Helen Alefounder 27.46 (pb). Birkenhead: 39 Steve Weedman 21.27, 333 Debbie Weedman 31.11. Delamere: 57 Sophie Johnson 25.24, 100 Many Cartwright 27.26. Crewe: 19 Martin Cortvriend 22.06 (M70 course record). Conwy: 90 Martin Gill 27.17.

The first long-awaited Parkrun in Ruthin will take place on May 28th, starting from the town’s football club.

As usual, the Mid-Cheshire Spring 5k in Kingsley, near Frodsham, attracted a top-quality field from a wide area because of its reputation for its fast course.

No fewer than 27 runners finished inside 15 minutes, a remarkable statistic. The only Prestatyn finisher was Chris Yorke, who clocked an excellent 16.57 but was still placed only 183rd overall, reflecting the exceptionally high standard.

Steve Brown led a trio of the club’s ladies home in the Pen Dinas fell-race in Nant Peris the latest in the Tuesday night series. It is one of the toughest, with a steep ascent and descent. Results: 71 Steve Brown, 73 Liz Martin, 74 Julia Evans, 79 Cara Jones.

A few days later Julia took to the hills in the Halcombe Howler Half, which proved to be a misnomer because it was actually 16 .4 miles. The trail race, in the West Pennines near Ramsbottom, involved 2,964 feet of climbing and navigational skills were required.

Julia took it in her stride, finishing 26th out of 36 in 4-30.

The final list is now being drawn up of members wishing to attend the Rhewl Run, near Ruthin, on May 18, a popular social event last held three years ago.

As the food has to be ordered anyone planning to attend is asked to notify Gareth Hughes by May 11th at the latest.

As usual, there will be three off-road courses of different lengths, and showers will be available before the meal in the village pavilion.
