Rhyl promenade offers one of the flattest race venues imaginable but the out-and-back course used for Saturday’s half-marathon presents a mental as well as physical challenge because of its long, straight stretches.

Only five members of Prestatyn Running Club were among the 250-plus runners who took up the challenge, and the first of them to finish was Lee Bailey, whose last outing was in the vastly different Welsh 1,000s in Snowdonia.

On Saturday he finished 17th overall and was third in the 45-49 class in 1-28.25.

The other placings were: 52 Darren Thompson 1-39.38, 61 Craig Smith 1-44.08, 16th lady: Helen Ashworth 1-53.12, 21 Ally Reid 1-54.53.

Slightly further east six members turned out in the Nova Parkrun, while eight had a go at the new Parkrun in Ruthin.
