Seven medals was the more than satisfying haul for Prestatyn Running Club members from Sunday’s North Wales 10k championships in Caernarfon.

Only 10 members turned out but among them they came away with one gold, three silver and three bronze medals, as well as awards in the open race.

All three ladies were placed in the first three in their age-groups, while Roger Harrison-Jones would also have won gold had there been an M85 category.

The race marked a return to competition for Canyon Wilson, who eased his way back into racing.

Placings: 58 Darren Thompson 43.49 (3rd M55 in championships), 73 Canyon Wilson 45.25, 78 Gethin Evans 45.41, 90 Marc Jones 47.00, 97 Sian Beck 48.28 (3rd L45 in open race and 2nd in champs), 107 Helen Ashworth 50.03 (3rd L40 in champs), 116 Ally Reid 51.20 (2nd L50 in champs), 129 George Nixon 52.30 (3rd M70 in open race and 2nd in champs), 161 Mike Davis 57.09 (1st M75 in open and champs), 190 Roger Harrison-Jones 64.52 (2nd M80 in open and champs).

There were several outstanding performances in last week’s Capenhurst 5k, which is noted for producing fast times.

In a high-quality field Tom Carter was in scintillating form, taking second in the M40 class in 16.35.Only 23 seconds behind wasyder, while club captain Dave Ellis registered a huge pb of 18.01.

Two members picked up top 3 places in their age-groups, George Nixon (3rd M70) and Ann-Claire Jones (3rd L50), who is more at home in hillier terrain.

Placings: 26 Tom Carter 16.35, 37 Alex Ryder 16.58), 76 Dave Ellis 18.01, 167 Darren Thompson 21.21, 198 James Rogers 22.17, 230 Ann-Claire Jones 23.30, 272 George Nixon 25.01, 291 Helen Alefounder 26.35, 353 Julie Evans 34.59.

Supervet Philip Jones couldn’t resist the chance to return to his native area, competing in the 3.5-mile cross-country Tanllwynen race, part of the Race the Train programme of events in Tywyn.

There was no M80 category but it made no difference as Philip won the M75 class in 46 mins.

Club members were in action at five different Parkrun venues on Saturday, with wind a prominent feature at each of them.

Nova: 5 Oliver Birch-Jones 19.36, 18 Marc Jones 22.47, 36 Ann-Claire Jones 25.16, 64 Nem James 29.00. 77 Olivia Standring-Jones 30.32, 100 Cathy Wood 33.29, 110 Emma Birchall 35.06, 111 Linda Friar 35.06.

Ruthin: 3 Steve Stocker 18.54 (pb).

Conwy: 255 Ian Cummins 50.30.

Greenfield Valley: 10 Steve Weedman 23.06, 22 Andy Clark 26.14.

Waterworks (Belfast): 57 Martin Cortvriend 25.20.

Ellesmere Port: 41 Sophie Johnson 26.41, 45 Mandy Cartwright 27.27.

Stretford: 18 Dave Ellis 18.11.

After her excellent run on Saturday young Olivia Standring-Jones finished second in Sunday’s Junior Parkrun, setting a new pb. The race was won by her Prestatyn clubmate Tia Calland.

Places: 1 Tia Calland 9.32, 2 Olivia Standring-Jones 9.36 (pb), 21 Ffion Standring-Jones 13.32.
